Embossed Sympathy Card

 

"When someone you love becomes a memory,
the memory becomes a treasure."

It seems like lately I've need to make a lot of this type of card. I made this for my friend who just lost her 19 year old grandaughter.

It was a very simple card...I used punches, rhinestones, tiny flowers and my new cuttlebug to emboss the top layer & flowers. I really love the color combination.

Military Fighter Jet (Valentine Box)

What do you get from this trash?...

  A "Military Fighting Jet"

Valentine holder box, that's what!

We started out with a juice box container, cardboard, duct tape, plastic cup, plastic cookie box, wood skewers and stars cut from the cricut.



We ended up with a cool fighting jet complete with missiles and pilot!

Ok, I showed the finished project, now on to the process and my story...


I used "Everyday Paper Dolls" cartridge for the pilot. I made the cockpit with a piece of clear plastic from a cookie box.
Now it's ready for Robbie to decorate.

Robbie is adding the stars; which I cut from the cricut and ran through my Xyron adhesive machine.

 

I really love how this turned out!

When he told me what he wanted me to make, all I could think was, 'how am I gonna do that?'  I had planned to make a simple quick 'robot' or 'monster' with a kleenex box. Then...I was at Hobby Lobby and they had a cute Robot kit for $3 and I bought it because I thought it was cute and would save me time. (what a slacker!) I showed it to him and his face fell, and he gave me those "eyes" as he said, "I really want a jet, pleeeeze." What else could I do, right??

I pulled up a picture of an F-16 on the computer, and the project evolved as I went. I decided to use duct tape to cover it because it was faster & easier than waiting on paint to dry. I covered each piece with the tape before I assembled the plane. I cut slits in the 'body' of the plane and slid the wings in, then used duct tape to secure them. I cut a hole on the end of the body, a little smaller than the red cup and pushed it in, and secured it with duct tape. I poked a hole in the red cup and stuck in the 'pointy stick thingy' that the F-16 had. (Believe it or not, there is no hot glue in this project!)

The next morning, Robbie came downstairs and was thrilled with the creation! After he placed his stars on, he said, "Grandma, you forgot the missiles." No, I hadn't forgotten...so off to the craft room we went, where I cut some wood skewers, painted them green and duct taped them under the wings.
Voila, a "Military Fighter Jet" was born!

Robbie's expression and his squeals of delight when he saw his plane, made all the effort worth while!

I Apologize

I know I haven't posted anything in several months. I have "issues" (emotional & physical), that rear their ugly head from time to time; and they have over taken me for the last few months. I've barely kept my head above water with my daily responsibilites, let alone, craft. I am a GIANT procrastinator by nature, and that has made some things worse!

My little boy, has also had some problems, and I've had to take him to appointments several days a week, and that time eats up a lot of my day.

On a positive note, I did organize all my Cricut cartridges! Yay! I've been wanting to do that for a long time. Well, I was "motivated" because...after I updated my Gypsy, It had a problem, I had to re-format, and my cart's were erased. Since I had to take them out and reload them, it only made sense that I make a list of them and organize them properly.
So, I'm happy that I accomplished that.  I'm working on cleaning off the top of my computer desk. Oh..My..Goodness! The mail, that I uncovered that was never opened!  I'm almost finished with that, then I will begin the shredding mail process. It's amazing how much junk mail one receives, isn't it! What a waste!

I attended a class in July and made a "big page" (24x36) for the wall. I just bought my frame on sale at Hob Lob, so I'm going to frame it (soon I hope) and hang it up in my room.

It's hard to tell, but the main colors are aqua and tan, mounted black.

It will look so much better, once I frame it!

I really appreciate those of you who still check my blog, to see if I've done anything new. Thank you. I don't know when I'll get back to crafting on a steady basis, but I'm hoping it's very soon.


Giant Punches

These are "Lucky 8" punches by We R Memory Keepers. They are so cool!

Floral Burst, Retro Scallop, Eternal Heart & Vine Bracket

I puchased these from HSN when they were the Today's Special back in March. It was a set of two, and I opted for the auto ship program and I will recieve two more punches in May, July and October.  I just received the May shipment, and can't wait to get the next ones! They are pricey, but I'm getting them for less thru HSN. I locked in the special price and reduced shipping for my future shipments. How much are they, you ask? Well I'm paying $49.95 for a set of two. I'm thinking they are running about $40 for one elsewhere.  Go here to see all 12 punches. Here is what they do...

Starting with a 12x12 sheet of paper

(You can used other size square paper for a differnt effect)

These are the instructions on how to use the punch. Also shows what
design you'll get if you use a different size (square ) paper.

This is the "Floral Burst" punch set to cut the combined cut.

 It's really simple, you set the levers on top depending on which design your after. I have this set to cut the combined cut.  Punch all four corners...

I punch the 4 corners, flipped the paper over and punched the other
4 corners, and there it is!

Here's a combined cut with the Eternal Heart punch. I used it for a recent scrapbook page and cut it in half.

I can't wait to get this one, called "Party Streamer". I hope it's the one coming in July!


NSD Color Challenge

This is the page I created for the NSD #1 - Black & White + 1 challenge over at Hiding In My Craft Room. The challenge is to use black and white and one other color. By using glitter and bling, it also qualifies for this months glitter challenge at, A Couple Of Craft Addicts.

My grandaughter wants to visit these places.

For my paper I used solid black and two black & white printed papers.

I used bright pink glitter paper as my accent color.

I used my cricut and the Ultimate Creative Sampler Cartridge.

I also used a scallop circle punch and this giant punch. It's so cool!

This is the "Lucky 8" punch  by We R Memory Keepers.
It does three different styles, depending on how you set the button thingys on top.
 You punch all 4 corners, then flip the paper over, punch those corners and
this is what you get!

I cut the giant circle in half; attached all my paper elements then finished it with some rhinestones and chipboard alpha for the title. I edited the photo in PicMonkey and gave it a

black & white whispy effect.
